'Een weergaloze Tobias Borsboom riep als meestervertellers eigen de ware spanning op' (NRC/NRC next)

De Nederlandse pianist Tobias Borsboom staat bekend om zijn juweel van een toucher (Trouw) en zijn persoonlijke, mateloos kleurige spel (Dagblad van het Noorden/Leeuwarder Courant). Het Parool schreef naar aanleiding van zijn laatste cd dat Jonge durfal Tobias Borsboom volle zalen verdient met zijn prachtige Pan.

Borsboom heeft zich gevestigd als een veelzijdig en creatief musicus met een grote finesse en een breed repertoire. De afgelopen seizoenen trad Tobias op in alle grote concertzalen in Nederland als winnaar van de Dutch Classical Talent Award en Publieksprijs. Met zijn soloprogramma Wanderer en als solist in Gershwins Pianoconcert in F met het Nederlands Studenten Orkest toerde hij in binnen- en buitenland. Ook soleert hij met het Noord Nederlands Orkest en het Residentie Orkest. In zijn solorecitals brengt hij spraakmakende programma's waarin hij de grote meesters combineert met hedendaagse muziek. Samen met pianoduopartner Yukiko Hasegawa heeft Tobias Borsboom regelmatig optredens in Japan, waar ze in 2018 zijn verkozen tot Shizuoka no Meishutachi (Meesters van Shizuoka). Zijn debuutalbum Wanderer en zijn cd met Pan van Vítězslav Novák zijn met veel lof in de pers en media onthaald.

Borsboom excelleert niet alleen als solist, maar ook als een bevlogen kamermusicus. Regelmatige kamermuziekpartners zijn cellist Lidy Blijdorp, violist Pieter van Loenen en saxofonist Femke Steketee. Met cellist Pamela Smits werkt Tobias sinds 2017 samen als programmeur van de concertserie Vriendenconcerten in de Zuiderkerk van Amsterdam. Het Haagse kamermuziekfestival Klassiek achter de Duinen, dat hij met violist Pieter van Loenen in 2021 opgericht heeft, is binnen korte tijd uitgegroeid tot een belangrijk evenement, geprezen vanwege zijn topartiesten, aantrekkelijke programmering en goede sfeer.

De artistieke interesse van Borsboom is breed, zo blijkt uit talloze samenwerkingen met andere kunstvormen. Zijn muziekvoorstelling voor kinderen in samenwerking met Oorkaan, Meneer Tobias en het zwarte monster, trok volle zalen. Met auteur Jan Brokken geeft hij regelmatig literaire concerten, waaronder De Tuinen van Buitenzorg (piano solo) en De Rechtvaardigen (met Lidy Blijdorp). Als acterend musicus speelt Tobias Borsboom in eigen producties De Schubertianen & de Housewarming 1826 en Schubert/Schober.

Hij voltooide zijn master-opleiding bij Jan Wijn aan het Conservatorium van Amsterdam in 2013. Daarvoor werd hij opgeleid door Paolo Giacometti (Utrechts Conservatorium, Jong Talent). Naast zijn drukke concertleven werkt Tobias Borsboom aan het Conservatorium van Amsterdam als correpetitor.

The Dutch pianist Tobias Borsboom is known for a ‘golden touch’ (Trouw) and his ‘personal and immensely colourful playing’ (Dagblad van het Noorden/ Leeuwarder Courant). Het Parool wrote on the occasion of his latest CD that ‘Young daredevil Tobias Borsboom deserves sold out halls with his beautiful Pan’. 
 
Borsboom has established himself as a versatile and creative musician with great finesse and a broad repertoire. In recent seasons, Tobias has performed in all major concert halls in the Netherlands as winner of the Dutch Classical Talent Award and Audience Award. With his solo programme Wanderer and as a soloist in Gershwin's Piano Concerto in F with the Netherlands Student Orchestra, he has toured in the Netherlands and abroad. He also performs as a soloist with the North Netherlands Symphony Orchestra and in 2026 with the Residentie Orkest. In his solo recitals, he presents high-profile programmes in which he combines the great masters with contemporary music. Together with piano duo partner Yukiko Hasegawa, Tobias Borsboom regularly performs in Japan, where they were elected as ‘Shizuoka no Meishutachi’ (Masters of Shizuoka) in 2018. His debut album Wanderer and his recording with ‘Pan’ by Vítězslav Novák have been received with much praise in the press and media.

Borsboom excels not only as a soloist, but also as an inspired chamber musician. The Festival Klassiek achter de Duinen, which he organises together with violinist and duo partner Pieter van Loenen, has since 2021 quickly grown into an important event, praised for its top artists, attractive programming and good atmosphere. 
Borsboom's artistic interests are broad, as evidenced by numerous collaborations with other art forms. With author Jan Brokken he regularly gives literary concerts. As an acting musician, Tobias Borsboom plays in his own productions ‘The Schubertians & the Housewarming 1826’ and ‘Schubert/Schober’. And his collaborative music-theatre production with Oorkaan, 'Mr. Tobias and the Black Monster', delighted audiences of hundreds of children and their parents.

He completed his master's degree with Jan Wijn at the Conservatory of Amsterdam in 2013. Before that, he was trained by Paolo Giacometti (Utrecht Conservatory, Young Talent). In addition to his active concert life, Tobias Borsboom works at the Conservatory of Amsterdam.
